St Paul’s Church, Covent Garden, London WC2 - North Courtyard and Quinquennial Repairs

Having previously provided the client and Architect with the new Jubilee Garden in the south courtyard PIERRA were appointed the Principal Contractor for the works to the North Courtyard of this Grade I listed church in the heart of the Covent Garden.

This involved the design, manufacture and installation of a new Portland stone plinth for the re-siting of The Conversion of St Paul statue which was relocated from Soho Square and donated by the famous sculptor Bruce Denny.

For the new plinth structure to be installed the re-landscaping of the North Courtyard was carried out including the installation of a large reinforced concrete slab to house the new plinth structure.

Internal and external masonry works including sensitive stone indenting was undertaken by PIERRA’s specialist Façade Preservation qualified stone masons.

With the church being known as the “actor’s church” it was fitting that the new statue and stone plinth was unveiled in an official ceremony hosted by Dame Dudi Dench.
