The prestigious Whitstable Castle and its gardens will be underwent a £2.8 m Lottery Funded refurbishment to restore the castle to somewhere near its original splendor.
PIERRA were the preferred specialist contractor to carry out the much sought after restoration and new stonework packages. The restoration package will included extensive repointing to the rag-stone walling, the rebuilding of the castle's crenelations, Caen stone replacement and indenting, lime mortar repairs and extensive replacement of the existing rendering to the parapet walls with lime based render.
The new stonework package involved the design, supply and fixing of new Coombefield Whitbed ashlar, window and door dressings, copings and cantilevered turrets with knapped flints built between the stone dressings.
The knapped flint work was then extended to the garden areas of the castle where PIERRA were enlisted with the responsibility of the construction of the new garden walls.
