As part of this large redevelopment project PIERRA were employed as the specialist masonry contractor to carry out the façade cleaning, repair and masonry replacement.
Initially, the front Portland stone and rear brickwork facades were cleaned utilizing a combination of the traditional masons’ water clean with a super-heated steam system.
The facades then underwent extensive structural stone replacements and indents along with lime based mortar repairs. Large masonry units were replaced to the columns, pilasters, ashlars, pediments and cornices, along with the cleaning and treatment of the encased structural steel beams and columns, with some of the new units weighing over 750 kg.
